• Amid escalating global water challenges, this lecture will explore how digitalisation is redefining urban water security. Roger will contextualise the urgency of modernising water supply systems, highlighting vulnerabilities in conventional infrastructure and recounting WSD’s evolution from reactive maintenance to preventative strategies and now towards predictive management. Central to this transformation are the following technological pillars:

  1. Sensors & IoT: Serving as the “nervous system” of water supply networks for real-time monitoring of system performance and warning of anomalies.
  2. Digital Twin & Modelling: Simulating a “parallel universe” of water supply systems for optimal system design and operations.
  3. Big Data & AI: Extracting the full value of operational data for predictive analytics Tand pre-emptive actions.
  

• By integrating these technologies in water supply operations, Hong Kong will embark on its digital water era to elevate the security of urban water supplies and enhance the livability of the city.
